Police who hit Doctor's Cave at 1 a.m. smelled a strong odor of pot, Police Director Jerry Speziale said.

The Grand Street club was the scene of a shooting and “the source of complaints from concerned citizens and other businesses -- specifically a significant number quality of life complaints for fights, loud music, and traffic conditions,” Speziale said.

“There were 16 lit hookahs on the bar and the establishment was charging an entrance fee without an entertainment license,” he added.

Authorities seized $1,290 in entrance fees and $624 from illegal hookah sales, as well as 49 hookahs and various hookah accessories, the director said.

The ABC/Vice Task Force, assisted by the Narcotics Division, Community Stabilization Unit, and the Paterson fire inspectors next hit the Silk City Gentlemen’s Club on First Avenue at 2:45 a.m.

The club “has been the source of complaints for a large amount of fights,” Speziale said.

Authorities seized 27 hookahs, he said.

“There was no currency seized from the establishment [because] the location was close to closing and the currency for hookah could not be differentiated,” the director said.

Violation notices were issued to both clubs, Speziale said, adding that no arrests were made.
